Founder’s Story
EchoSync VR began with a simple belief: that access to heritage should be open to everyone. Our founder, James Tufnell, began his journey in archaeology, studying landscapes at Oxford, and exploring how digital tools could bring the past to life. His experience in strategy consulting and the military shaped a determination to turn meaningful ideas into action. EchoSync VR grew from that commitment, with a mission to create immersive cultural experiences that can be explored by anyone, anywhere.
Where EchoSync VR Comes From
Archaeologist by Training, Storyteller at Heart
James’ academic grounding in archaeology spans Oxford, Cambridge and Durham, where he specialised in landscape archaeology and heritage protection. His research explored how immersive technologies like virtual reality could transform public access to vulnerable sites. Whether investigating Roman villas or rescue excavations, his work has always focused on how the past can be meaningfully shared with the present.
Strategic Thinking with Real-World Impact
James’ consulting experience at BCG, Capgemini and Accenture, together with his background in the military, has helped him develop a thoughtful and practical approach to problem solving. He has worked with clients across sectors, bringing clarity and focus to complex challenges. These skills now support the development of EchoSync VR, where strategy is guided by a clear mission to make cultural access more inclusive and meaningful.
Built for Purpose, Driven by Values
From working on his family’s regenerative farm to leading on digital strategy, James has always looked for ways to align innovation with long term impact. EchoSync VR brings those experiences together, shaped by his MBA at Imperial College London and a belief that technology should be used to preserve what matters most for generations to come.
